After discussion with the local community, it was decided to make a mosaic sign to highlight the Lost Palaces of Lixnaw, local built heritage now in ruins. The mosaic is situated opposite the large, ivy covered ruins, built during the 17th/18th Century. It was once an early Neo-Classical big house, owned by the Fitzmaurice family. With what remains. it is difficult to determine its exact style, but local historians have likened it to Bel House in London which was built at a similar time. The mosaic is based on drawings of this house and informs the public of what the ruin may have looked like in its hey day. The mosaic design includes creeping ivy, which suggests the building’s future fate.
