This sculpture commemorates 60 years of Glor na nGael, a national Irish language organisation that organises a national competition. Using clay plaques it records the names of all the winning towns and cities. The shape of the sculpture is informed by standing stones, and the surface decoration is inspired by St Patrick’s Bell Shrine, a jewel encrusted, 12th century relic in the National Gallery was used as inspiration. The three birds of Glór na nGael’s logo were incorporated into the sculpture. The birds are taken from stories connected to the life of St Patrick, where the singing of the birds drew him back to Ireland.
