My interest in mosaic began while living in Italy during the 1990s. I now make mosaics using Mexican smalti, a hand poured opaque glass tesserae with a wide range of colours and textures. With Mexican smalti I can capture the painterly qualities of hand drawing and incorporate striking colours, coupled with the permanence of glass.
